Mzansi Lullabies
Rainbow Nation Kids’ sophomore album, Mzansi Lullabies, is a heartfelt collection of 15 beautifully crafted songs, set for release on July 26, 2024. This album blends the rich heritage of South African music with the tender intimacy of lullabies, featuring six traditional Zulu children’s songs reimagined in soothing arrangements, alongside nine original compositions written and produced by Lungi Naidoo and Ryan Sackanary. For Lungi, Mzansi Lullabies was born out of the deeply personal experience of motherhood.

As a new mom to twins, she quickly realised that soothing them to sleep was more than just a nightly routine—it became a bonding ritual, an act of comfort, and sometimes, a moment of much-needed calm in the whirlwind of caring for two babies at once.

"Being a mother is the most beautiful, yet overwhelming experience, and having twins is double the joy but also double the exhaustion. There were nights when both babies would cry at the same time, and I felt completely helpless, running on little to no sleep. In those moments, I found that humming simple, repetitive melodies would calm them down. They responded to the warmth in my voice, the rhythm of my breath—it was as if they knew I was right there with them, and that was enough to soothe them to sleep."
What started as an instinctive act of comfort soon became an idea. Lung realised that if these lullabies helped her twins, perhaps they could help other parents and caregivers too. Many new moms face the same struggles—exhaustion, self-doubt, and the deep desire to do everything right. The journey can feel isolating at times, but music has a way of bringing connection, warmth, and reassurance. With Mzansi Lullabies, we hope to share a little piece of that magic with families everywhere. Whether it's a quiet moment before bed, a gentle song playing in the background during a restless night, or a melody that brings calm to a fussy baby, this album is a love letter to parents navigating the beautiful, chaotic journey of raising little ones.
"We took familiar nursery rhymes and paired them with the gentle melodies I used to hum to my babies, creating an album that feels like a warm embrace. We wanted Mzansi Lullabies to be a source of comfort, not just for little ones, but for the parents too—to remind them that they are not alone and that sometimes, the simplest gestures, like humming a tune, can be the most powerful."
